Info & Gear List

Our programs are carefully designed to deepen ecological awareness through creative problem solving, team and personal challenges, and exploratory play. We aim to foster and deepen a sense of wonder and curiousity within each child through interacting with the land. We weave together instructional time for outdoor skills (e.g. wildlife tracking, fire-making, natural shelter-building, harvesting and working with locals plants), facilitated games to activate and train our awareness skills, and open play.

We use specific core routines including sit spots, nature journalling, creative storytelling, songs and the art of questioning. Each of these routines uniquely contributes to an overall sense of community and meaning for each learner over time. We aim to inspire confidence, resilience and community interacting with the natural world.

Our programs include:
  • natural shelter building techniques
  • sit spots
  • visits from local Elders, trappers and specialists sharing stories, skills and cultural activities
  • sneaking silently in the woods and animal stalking
  • wild crafting (gathering, twining & weaving, plant pressing)
  • flatwater & river canoeing instruction
  • mammal, bird and wildlife tracking
  • friction fires (bow drill, hand drill)
  • fire-building techniques
  • Yukon wild edible and medicinal plants
  • ecological games & songs
  • macro sketching and botanical drawings
  • forest, invertebrate, and soil studies
  • open exploratory and free play
  • sensory awareness training
  • team-building challenges
  • storytelling and active listening
  • survival scenario challenges
  • routine nature journalling
  • bird behaviour and bird language
  • creative land mapping
  • small woodworking projects (duck boxes, plant presses)

We run programs all year-round, including in cold winter temperatures.
